Code Editors are at the core of any good developer's software. All of the code editors below are either free or shareware with no time limit (unlimited shareware). The only exception is the time-limited trial of HomeSite.
HomeSite
The favorite of most "Hard Coders". This editor is a time limited shareware that is used by many professional coders including <Code_Punk>. It's "extended replace" function makes changing a link across a hundred pages a breeze. Many other features are included like tag validation, link checking, on and on. A great site coding and management tool.
Ace HTML Editor
This is a favorite of mine and my choice among the freeware editors out there. It's got almost all of the features of HomeSite - like universal search and replace and integrated file management.
The only catch is that you have to apply for a free registration number. This doesn't cost you anything, but they will spam the email address you give them. Use a "spam dump" address (a free Hotmail or Yahoo! account you can use for this sort of thing and other "spammy" activities).
It's well worth the small hassle of the registration. Record your free registration number so you won't have to sign up every time you reload Ace HTML Editor.
Arachnophilia
The best beginner's HTML editor out there. It has all of the functions commonly used and introduces the coder to color coded tags and other neat pro tricks. It has integrated file management and a preview browser so you don't have to keep your browser and file manager open all the time. Quick previews of your work as you go.
Araneae
A really good beginning HTML editor. It offers color coding for tags that's customizable to your tastes. It's very easy to set up, use and configure. We've got Bigg Impp to thank for finding this gem.
HTMLKit
A good editor that's up there with the best of them. HTMLKit is can be highly customized with a vast selection of toolbars. Great interface.
SiteAid
SiteAid is a good site manager as well as a code editor. Many features to help you validate links, etc. over several pages.
Easy HTML
Just what it says. A good, solid HTML editor that's easy to configure and use. It will save you a ton of time over coding in a text editor.
Web Dwarf
Web Dwarf is the best of the free WYSIWYG freeware editors. You can drag and drop text and images to make really good web pages. Offers full text/code editing as well. It's very easy to use. Most operations are just to select an area and then move, apply styling, or edit.
Swatch-O-Matic
This is a really easy-to-use color picker. You can blend any color you can think of by using the three slidebars (red, green, and blue). The resulting color is displayed in a box. Once you get your color, you can click a button to have the hexadecimal value copied to your clipboard for pasting into your page's code. Absolutely free.
